Exhibition Statement:

As an adopted person who has spent the last decade searching for his birth family, Brian Garbrecht's work is about the search for truth, and the ideas of family, loss, memory, and identity. By connecting the pieces of his story, Brian implores viewers to think about their own definition of family, and how we connect to the people and places around us. Each work in this installation relates to these ideas and themes by mixing together original photographs, printmaking, videos, family archives, and important documents. Brian's work is an opportunity to collaborate with his family and their unique history, to tell stories and to invite viewers in on his search for truth and understanding.
